Tawheed - The foremost thing!

Sheikh Zubair Alizai Rahimahullah writes:

Allaah(subhanahu wa ta’aala) says:

And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], “Worship Allaah and avoid Taghut.(Surah an-Nahl v.36)

When our leader, our beloved , Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) sent Muadh ibn Jabal (radhiyallahu anhu) as a governor towards Yemen, he instructed him saying:

Then the first thing you call them towards is the Tawheed (Oneness) of Allaah. (Saheeh Bukhari:7372, Kitab at-Tawheed)

Haaris ibn Haaris al-Aa’izee radhiyallahu anhu narrated that:

When I came to Mecca(during the state of Jahiliyyah), I saw people gathered around the Prophet(sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). So I asked my father:

Why are these people gathered here. My father said: These people are gathered around a Saabi*. I went near and I saw that the Prophet(sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was calling people towards Tawheed and Eemaan.

(at-Tareekh al-Kabeer by Bukharee 2/262;its chain is saheeh and Abu Zurrah ad-Damishqee classed it as Saheeh in Tareekh Damishq by Ibn Asakir 12/213,214; also narrated by Ibn Abee Asim in al-Aahaad wa al-Masaani 5/374 h.2976)

From the above two narrations, we get to know the importance of Tawheed of Allah and this sets the path for a Da’ee(inviter) towards Allah, so that the inviting towards Tawheed is never neglected.

The fundamental of the religion of Islam is Tawheed. Hence, the first invitation should be always towards it. The salah(prayer) & jihaad will only be acceptable if the Tawheed of the person is completely free from impurity and shirk.

It is understood from the character of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and the biography of the Salafus Saliheen that the invitation towards Tawheed has the highest priority. Hence, it is obligatory on every individual that he takes the path of Tawheed and Sunnah, thereby spending his whole life in the worship of Allaah (subhanahu wa ta’aala) and that he makes all his worship for Allaah alone.

And that he makes a firm belief in his heart that my prayer, my sacrifice, my life and my death is all for the Lord of the worlds, who has no associate with Him, and this is what I have been commanded to do and that I am the first of the obedient to Him i.e. a Muslim.

Whoever leaves Tawheed for a different path, then Allaah will destroy all his deeds as He says:

Indeed, he who associates others with Allaah – Allaah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers. (al-Maa’idah v.72)

O Allaah! Keep us alive on Tawheed & Sunnah. And make us die upon it. Aameen!

* Saabi refers to the word used by the idol worshipers of Mecca to abuse the Prophet and his followers. It basically means someone who becomes a heretic or leaves the religion.
